Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient art of holistic healing using a pressure
technique on specific reflex points on the feet. The foot is a map
of the body to the reflexologist because reflex points on the feet
correspond with organs, glands and other body parts. The aim of
the treatment being not to just work on a problem but to bring about
balance where there is imbalance - treat the person as a "whole"
thereby stimulating the body's natural self-healing abilities. This
will result in a feeling of equilibrium - a balance of mind, body
and soul.
Historically,
reflexology has been practiced for thousands of years by
different cultures around the world. It is known to have been used
in China and Egypt. A pictograph was found in a physician's tomb
dated 2500B.C. showing reflexology treatment being carried out.
Some of the North American native peoples are also known to have
practiced a form of reflexology.
Anyone
young or old can benefit from reflexology and as only the feet are
exposed it is non-intrusive. It can help many disorders and alleviate
pain and stress. The number of sessions recommended varies from
person to person and this is discussed at the first consultation.
Each session will vary
because as the body improves so the reflexologist adapts the treatment.
After each session it is recommended that clients drink as much
water as she or he can tolerate as this will help the elimination
process. |
