Richard works with people to promote healing and wellness in
personal and work contexts, therapeutically integrating mind,
body, and spirit.
Born in the UK, Richard moved to Asia in 1986. He has lived
and worked in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan, with projects
in a dozen countries worldwide. The last 15 years of his 35-year
career has focused on coaching, counselling, and training. Combined
with the two previous decades (one in professional CPA firms
helping people to resolve financial and legal difficulties;
one in business operations and finance, both as entrepreneur
and as manager), his breadth of experience provides a rich source
of practical, cross-cultural, hands-on examples.
He relates easily and supportively to a wide variety of people
and situations – children and adults, successful business
leaders and struggling students, local and Western.
In 2002, Richard earned his M.Ed with distinction. His dissertation
on loss involved pioneering research, and he now works with
people experiencing all forms of loss.
He helps men with personal, business, and family roles. He
writes on men’s work, and is a member of a local men’s
group.
Richard practises a meditative discipline of self-knowledge,
and during the 1970s lived for eight years in an ashram. He
has also been an active sportsman, and written a book about
hiking in Hong Kong.

Talk
Therapy
Richard
offers “talk therapy” for healing and wellness in personal
and work contexts, therapeutically integrating mind, body, and spirit.
Many
of our patients feel benefit from talking with somebody in greater
depth. As an old proverb notes, “a trouble shared is a problem
halved.” Sharing and discussing a difficult issue often relieves
much of the associated stress and discomfort, and helps us to understand
what is happening. Family, friends, or work colleagues may not have
the skills to provide this form of help, and sometimes it is not
even desirable or appropriate to talk to them.
Richard
works in combination with all our therapeutic approaches. Sometimes
this may be for just one session to identify and dissolve a mental
block so you can get moving again; sometimes it may be for a longer-term
series of sessions to explore and resolve long-standing issues.
With
his own unique holistic “4S” frame, Richard’s
warm, empathic, facilitative coaching and counselling uses questions
to reveal a whole lifetime perspective and gain new insights; out-of-the-box
creativity to reframe issues and develop choices; and guidance to
unblock creative energy, release inherent potential, and implement
solutions.
