Therapeutic Yoga
In recent years Hong Kong has seen a huge ‘yoga’ surge; yoga has become faster, harder, more - subsequently resulting in the unfortunate increase of yoga related injuries. The practice of Hatha Yoga is without doubt an excellent practice for maintaining general health and wellbeing. However, in the classroom, the desire to do the poses regardless of an individual’s actual ability can easily give rise to functional imbalances and compensatory patterns in their body which may result in a decreased range of movement, pain or even injury. This is especially significant where there is stress, bad posture or other complications.
Therapeutic Yoga is not merely for yoga enthusiasts but for anyone who recognizes and values the importance of a body that moves with grace and stability. Therapeutic yoga practice builds balance, ease, strength and better functional movement. It is an effective restorative blend of biomechanics, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology and pure awareness. And, when coupled with the ancient wisdom of the yogis then there is a unique formula for maintaining mind-body balance through movement, breathing and stillness.
Although the benefits of Hatha Yoga can also be applied to Therapeutic yoga, Therapeutic Yoga is especially suitable for those who are experiencing aches and pains in their joints, reduced range of motion, restrictions due to injury or surgery etc. Its effects go further than the ‘mat’. The practice can be carried through one’s daily activities from low activity - sitting at a desk to the high activity of sports.

Testimonials
I have been Jan's student for fourteen years. I was introduced to Jan through a friend in 1996. I had just been diagnosed with MS. In just a few minutes of knowing her she had put my worries and mind at ease. I saw Jan week after week for Hatha Yoga classes. During this time I experienced greater flexibility, toning and relaxation. I wanted to share the benefits of Jan's therapy with my family and so added a family session on Saturday.
With therapeutic yoga I am experiencing more balance within my body in my day to day life. I feel stronger and that my posture has improved because I am much more conscious of using my core muscles. I am constantly aware of my mind body connection and my breathing. My body yearns to get back to my practice after long summer absences.
In addition to the physical aspects of yoga I am becoming increasingly aware of mental discipline and the importance of a positive mind. Jan has recently seen me through many surgeries related to breast cancer. I could not have done it without her. Her time spent with me with meditation has been a Godsend. Jan is an amazing calming individual and a great teacher. I would recommend her without hesitation. She has transformed my healing experience.

I have been attending yoga classes led by Jan for more than 10 years already. I used to be very stiff in my movements, but yoga has helped me become more supple and flexible. Now I know how to manage the stiffness, discomfort and pain on my lower back, especially when I sit for long hours at my work desk.
Therapeutic yoga has made me more conscious of my own body posture. Now I am able to be more balanced, feel lighter, more relaxed, with a deeper level of awareness and stronger mind-body connection.
I am forever grateful to Jan for making me want to continue my yoga practice even more. I find it satisfying and fulfilling to understand more about my own anatomy, physiology and mind-control over body.
Thanks Jan!

My husband and me have had great pleasure to know our gentle Jan. When we finish our twice weekly sessions with her, we feel calm, happy and relaxed. I have never known one hour to pass so quickly as she guides us through breathing, balancing, stretching and controlled movements that require concentration. Over the last few years our backs, shoulders and legs feels stronger and more flexible. I highly recommend her if you want to feel a strong connection between your mind and body.
