Sophrology is a gentle and safe yet highly effective holistic non-invasive technique widely used all over Europe, particularly in France, Switzerland and Spain for more than sixty years. It can be beneficial for any age group, from children to adults.
Sophrologists work in hospitals, medical centers, businesses, schools etc to bring well-being and optimal health.
It was created by a neuro-psychiatrist, Professor Alfonso Caycedo in 1960 and combines Eastern and Western traditions, which include deep breathing concentration, relaxation, visualization and simple movements to successfully reduce and bring about healing and well-being for a wide range of health problems caused by stress. These exercises are simple and easy to use in everyday life.
A Typical Session
It will last an hour with time for the client to talk and express his/her needs and concerns followed by some breathing exercises, some dynamic relaxation and a visualization. The result has the immediate benefit to reduce stress and promote mental and physical “well-being.”
One of sophrology's main principles is that by relaxing the body, you also calm the mind but also experience the present moment to the fullest without any judgment.
The person guided by the sophrologist's voice focuses on individual body parts from head to toe, relaxing and becoming aware of each part.
This brings about a deep relaxation of the muscles whilst the individual reaches a state of consciousness between being awake and asleep where the mind is so calm that the intellect won't have its say. This allows the chatter of the inner mind to quieten in order to connect with our deeper, wiser intuitive mind.
The goal is to help you establish a balance between body and mind in order to develop a more harmonious as well as relax more deeply on a physical and mental level.
