Darcie Iki was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she grew up with a strong connection to the land and an appreciation for nature. The concept of Aloha ‘Aina (Love of the Land) is an important concept in Hawaiian culture and has a big influence on her work.
“It was a special place to be raised, not only for its physical beauty, but also for the loving nature of its people. It is truly a special place. When you grow up surrounded by such beauty, it’s impossible to not feel connected to nature and grateful for being enveloped in so much love and beauty. When you can live in this space of love and gratitude, you can affect great change in your life.”
Darcie has 11 years of experience practicing as an aromatherapist/massage therapist. She graduated from Asia-Pacific Aromatherapy in 2003 where she received an internationally recognized diploma in holistic aromatherapy. In 2005, she studied traditional lomilomi massage with kumu (teacher), Liann Uyeda at Aloha Lomilomi in Hawaii. Inspired by her connection to traditional Hawaiian massage, she continued her studies under the guidance of Dr. Maka’ala Yates, founder of Mana Lomi and world renowned and respected kumu of lomilomi and traditional Hawaiian herbal medicine. She has attended Dr. Yates’s Intensive courses as well as advanced classes in Mana Lomi on the island of Kaua’i, which included levels I, II,III, and lomi’ili’ili (hot stones), lomi papahele (floor lomi and lomi stick), and lomi ho’onohoiwi.
Lomilomi is Native Hawaiian healing art that is a gentle, yet powerful treatment that effectively cleanses, releases, and heals on a deeper physical and spiritual plane. It utilizes rhythmic strokes, deep breathing, and intention to promote a deep sense of relaxation that balances the mind, body and spirit.
Native Hawaiians believed that we are born as a bowl of light. As we grow up, the light in our bowl begins to get covered up and dimmed by the negative events and emotions we experience in life. Each time we are yelled at or told we are not good enough, a pebble enters our bowl and covers our light.
“It is my goal to help clients to understand this concept, to encourage the process of letting go of these negative energies (physical and emotional), and to realize that the light they seek is shining within themselves. Mana Lomi works on many levels and can help release these energies so that clients can feel lighter and freer. As I work on the body to release tension and dysfunction, I am also working to clear negative energies stored in the muscles and the bones. When the body, mind and heart are free of blocks, our mana (life force) is able to flow freely. In addition, I create a custom blend of essential oils for each client that addresses their physical and emotional needs at that moment. The power of the essential oils helps to support this process of release and healing.”
In addition, she has also received certificates in reiki, hot stone therapy, fascial & cranial release, Indian head massage, and kinesiology. She formerly worked as an historian and curator at a museum in Los Angeles, California where she ran the life history program. This training taught her how to honor the individual life stories of every person and recognize that we all have a story to tell.
